Abstract: The relevance of the article is caused due to the need for studying the psychological conditions of the students’ desire for professional (career) growth. Only such a graduate of the university can not only solve multidisciplinary professional problems, make group decisions in modern conditions, but also strive for self-improvement and leadership. The analysis of literary resources devoted to the issue of professional growth allowed the authors to highlight the motivation for success as one of the psychological conditions for the formation of a professional career. The article analyzes the results of the study of the motivation of success and the motivation of failure in students studying in different areas of training. The essence of the influence of the peculiarity of the educational activities of different faculties on the formation of the motivation for success has been revealed. The reasons for the formation of motivation for failure have been revealed. The importance of increasing the use of active teaching methods (business game, design method, essay protection and cases) to develop motivation for leadership as a way to solve problems more effeciently is shown. The article is intended for employees of the education system, heads of educational organizations, researchers.
